The Treatment of Premenstrual Syndrome
±èöÁø/Cheol Jin Kim
Abstract
The author reviewed various research reports and reviews about treatment of
premenstrual syndrome(PMS). until now, more than 50 methods for treating PMS have
been proposed. Review of nonpharmacologic treatment of PMS indicates the all of these
interventions seem helpful in some degree. These methods are recommended to PMS
women whose symptoms are relatively mild. Review of pharmacologic treatments for
PMS shows recent advances about the effects of selective serotionin reuptake
inhibitors(SSRIs). These studies have been remarkably consistent in showing that the
majority of women with severe PMS experience complete of almost complete relief. Lack
of definite controlled long-term treatment study about the effects of SSRIs is the
remaining problem. At present, combined harmonious application of the pharmacologic
and nonpharmacologic treatment seems to be the best strategy for the treatment of
premenstrual syndrome.
